The statements given during the interrogation and the background of Ufuk Aytekin, the suspect in the forest fire that occurred recently in the Harmancık district of Bursa, have drawn attention.

Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç stated in his public announcement that the suspect had received psychiatric treatment four times between 2024 and 2025.

“MY PSYCHOLOGY WAS UNSTABLE”

Stating that Aytekin, who is alleged to have started the fire, said “my psychology was unstable” in his statement, Minister Tunç said that this declaration is being investigated.

PHONE RECORDS ARE BEING EXAMINED

Minister of Justice Tunç announced that the suspect's mobile phone records are also being examined. Within the scope of the investigation, it is being researched whether Aytekin had any connections with other individuals.

Technical and forensic examinations will continue before it is clarified whether the fire was started intentionally or as a result of a psychological crisis.

The fire that started in Harmancık was brought under control after days of intervention. In the incident where hundreds of hectares of land were reduced to ashes, some villages were evacuated as a precaution, and serious environmental and natural destruction occurred.

Emphasizing that a multi-faceted investigation is being carried out regarding the incident, Minister Tunç said, “The prosecutor's office is conducting a meticulous study to investigate the fire in all its dimensions. All necessary legal processes will be implemented to ensure that such incidents do not happen again.”
