Letter from Öcalan: What are his demands? 'I founded the organization...'
Following the call by MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli for a terror-free future, discussions between Abdullah Öcalan on İmralı Island and the DEM Party are ongoing. As the talks continue, PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan stated that negotiations regarding the organization laying down its arms have gained momentum. According to allegations, security sources reported that discussions are being held between the DEM Party delegation and Öcalan regarding how the call to lay down arms should be made. The content of the letter Öcalan wrote to the organization and his specific demands have not yet been disclosed.
Following the second meeting between the DEM Party delegation and the ringleader of the terrorist organization PKK on İmralı, it was stated that discussions between security units and terrorist leader Abdullah Öcalan regarding 'the PKK laying down its arms' have gained momentum.
In recent days, a statement had also come from the DEM Party that 'Öcalan will make a historic call'.
"MEETING BETWEEN DEM PARTY, ÖCALAN, AND MIT"
According to information reported in Türkiye Gazetesi, Öcalan has written a letter addressed to the organization.
While no statement has been made regarding the content of the letter, evaluations are being conducted in the meetings between security units and Öcalan concerning the content of the call to lay down arms, the method by which it will be issued, and whether it will be effective over the organization.
Security sources said, "These meetings are being conducted between the DEM delegation, Öcalan, and the MIT. How the call to lay down arms will be made, what expressions will be used, whether it will be verbal, written, or video? These are being addressed. Which of these options will be effective is being evaluated. Once a certain point is reached, steps will be taken regarding Öcalan's call."
"I FOUNDED IT, I AM DISMANTLING IT"
According to security sources, Öcalan does not allow the impositions of the organization and holds the view that "I founded the organization, I am dismantling it."
WHAT ARE ÖCALAN'S DEMANDS?
It is stated that the PKK terrorist organization's ringleader Öcalan has certain demands during the negotiations, but that the issue of 'amnesty' is not being opened for discussion in any way.
Behind the scenes, it is noted that if the organization lays down its arms completely, a regulation could be made for sick and elderly prisoners to serve their remaining sentences under house arrest.
AKP sources said, "What needs to be done here is for them to lay down their arms. Then, if there is something missing, we will look into it. No steps can be taken without them laying down their arms and seeing this concretely."
Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç also recalled that they do not have an agenda regarding amnesty, stating, "Here, execution at home could be in question for elderly patients, prisoners over 65, and prisoners over 70-80 years old, depending on the crimes they committed. There may be a regulation regarding individuals who cannot sustain their lives without the help of someone else."
"THERE IS NO BARGAINING HERE"
Evaluating the meetings held with İmralı, Minister Tunç said, "When this statement (laying down arms) will be made, whether it will be announced, and what its content will be is entirely evaluated by the interlocutor. The interlocutor here is not the state. There is no bargaining here either. We will absolutely not take a step that would hurt or upset our martyrs' families. This is not a bargaining process, a give-and-take process."
