Journalist Tolga Şardan has penned an article regarding claims that Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor Akın Gürlek will be brought to a more significant position in Ankara after completing the file concerning the detained Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu.

In his article published today on T24, Tolga Şardan included claims that Akın Gürlek's new position would be the Ministry of Justice.

"The IMM investigation will undoubtedly have repercussions not only in the CHP but also in the ruling AKP. The traces of this process will likely be seen in the changes President Erdoğan is expected to make to the cabinet following the parliamentary speaker election.

For some time now, it has been discussed in the capital's corridors that Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç and Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya will be among those affected by the changes. The same situation applies to the current Director General of Security, Mahmut Demirtaş.

The judiciary and security bureaucracy are closely following the developments moment by moment. According to one claim, Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor Akın Gürlek will be brought to a more important position in Ankara after completing the terrorism-related file on the detained IMM Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu.

WHO WILL REPLACE AKIN GÜRLEK?

Claims are circulating that the new position will be the Ministry of Justice. In this case, it is expected that Deputy Chief Prosecutor Can Tuncay will be brought in to replace him.

Let me add a small note: Deputy Chief Prosecutor Tuncay was one of the most mentioned names during the recently completed elections for members of the Council of Judges and Prosecutors (HSK). During the election process, it was stated that Tuncay could become an HSK member. It is stated that Minister of Justice Tunç intervened and expressed his opinion that Tuncay should continue his duty in Istanbul to share the burden on Gürlek.

For this reason, Tuncay was not appointed as an HSK member. On the other hand, it is also stated in the corridors that there will be a change in the Ministry of Interior. The name of Davut Gül, who currently serves as the Governor of Istanbul, is on the agenda to replace the current Minister Ali Yerlikaya.
