Manisa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ferdi Zeyrek was seriously injured after being electrocuted while intervening in a malfunction in the pool motor room in his home's garden on the night of June 6.

Zeyrek, whose heart had stopped, was taken to the hospital after the initial intervention at the scene. It was reported that Zeyrek's condition remains serious as his treatment continues in intensive care. Despite 48 hours having passed, experts state that the process is critical.

New statement on the health status of Ferdi Zeyrek in intensive care

Celal Bayar University Hafsa Sultan Hospital Chief Physician Prof. Dr. İsmet Topçu included the following statements in his latest update:

“This is a very dynamic process; it can change at any moment. It might not be very accurate to say anything good or bad from here. As of now, we are making every effort we can. It is not a process that a single person can manage alone. Currently, all physicians, including those from cardiovascular surgery, cardiology, neurology, anesthesia, and intensive care, are constantly at the patient's bedside. Our faculty members are working 24 hours a day. Apart from this, with the support of the Ministry, we have reached out to scientists who are very valuable in these fields in our country. A group was formed with them to consult on the effectiveness of the treatments being administered or the direction and continuation of the treatment. And by determining the most accurate treatment method for Mayor Ferdi, the current treatment is continuing.

The process is a difficult one; it is a major injury. The fact that he remained hypoxic (lack of oxygen in tissues) for a long time, serious organ damage, and a serious electrical burn, an electrical accident, is what we are facing. But the public can be at ease about this: Our entire team is currently working constantly for the patient, 24 hours a day, and we are in consultation with experts from all over Turkey. We are also receiving guidance from them. Apart from this, scientists, intensive care specialists, or cardiovascular surgery specialists whom we had not reached but who reached out to us are helping us with the process. There is guidance regarding them. We are trying to take the most accurate steps for his treatment.''

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel said in his latest statement, “This has probably been the holiday that we will all remember with the most negative memories throughout our lives. One part of our heart is imprisoned because of our friends in prison, and the other part feels the struggle of Mayor Ferdi, and a part of our heart has remained constricted like that. We thank everyone from all over Turkey, from all political parties, from all political views, and the representatives of all political parties in Manisa, each one individually. All the chairmen called and asked. Their provincial chairmen are coming here constantly. Every day, thousands, tens of thousands of people flock to the hospital and offer their good wishes. We thank both our fellow citizens of Manisa and everyone who called and asked. A very special relationship had developed between our Mayor Mansur and Mayor Ferdi in recent times. There was a very special dialogue between them. His presence here and the presence of Mrs. Nursen have both provided support to the family, and we are sure that Mayor Ferdi feels these good emotions and is holding onto life thanks to them. I thank them all as well.”
