Opposition calls for a commission for a 'new solution process': Government remains distant!
Following the call from PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, the opposition has demanded the establishment of a commission in Parliament and the taking of steps toward democratization. However, the government stated that it is not warm to taking new steps before weapons are laid down.
Following the call by PKK terrorist organization leader Abdullah Öcalan to lay down arms and the organization's announcement that it would comply with this call, a new resolution process has begun to be discussed in Turkey. While the opposition is demanding the establishment of an authorized commission in Parliament for the process to proceed healthily, the government is approaching this idea with distance.
CALL FOR DEMOCRATIZATION
The DEM Party, which is a continuation of the HDP, has long argued that steps toward democratization must be taken and that the resolution process must be conducted in parliament.
Yesterday, CHP Chairman Özgür Özel also joined the discussions and made a call to Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş.
Stating that an authorized commission should be established in Parliament, Özel expressed that they are ready to support steps toward democratization. The opposition emphasizes that the resolution process should proceed on a political basis alongside the steps to be taken.
GOVERNMENT DISTANT TO THE IDEA OF A COMMISSION
However, the government is approaching the steps proposed by the opposition regarding the resolution process with caution. AKP sources emphasized that it is not possible to take any steps before weapons are laid down, stating that the priority is the completion of this process.
Speaking to Gazete Duvar, AKP officials stated, "It is out of the question for any legal regulation to come to the Parliament's agenda before weapons are laid down. The priority is for the organization to lay down its arms."
