Özgür Özel said 'Imamoğlu is our Plan A and our Plan Z', but... Is the candidacy balance in the CHP shifting?

Despite CHP Chairman Özgür Özel's statements that "Our plan from A to Z is Ekrem İmamoğlu," it is stated that different scenarios are also being discussed in CHP corridors.

With the cancellation of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu's diploma and his subsequent arrest, new names have begun to be brought to the table for the CHP's presidential candidacy.

At the top of these names is Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş. While the question "Will Yavaş be the CHP's candidate?" is being asked more loudly in public, thoughts on alternative names have begun to be expressed in the party's upper echelons.

MANSUR YAVAŞ IS FAR AHEAD IN THE POLLS

According to TGRT Haber Ankara Representative Fatih Atik, the latest polls show that Mansur Yavaş's public support is far above other potential CHP candidates. In the data he announced during a live broadcast, Atik said that in response to the question "Who would you like to see as the CHP's presidential candidate?", Mansur Yavaş surpassed both Ekrem İmamoğlu and Özgür Özel.

It was stated that in some polls, President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was also included among the options.

“THIS WIND IS NOT AN ÖZGÜR ÖZEL WIND, IT IS AN İMAMOĞLU WIND”

According to Fatih Atik's assessment, the rise in public support for the CHP is more related to the support for Ekrem İmamoğlu than for Özgür Özel. Atik said, “When citizens were asked how they evaluated Özgür Özel's re-election as CHP Chairman, 48 percent responded positively, while 39 percent responded negatively. However, when asked about Özel's general performance, a 53.8 percent 'unsuccessful' response was received. These results reveal that the voter's trust in Özel is limited and that the real support is directed towards İmamoğlu.”

THE İMAMOĞLU WIND

Stating that the rallies organized by Özgür Özel in Saraçhane and his calls for boycotts were insufficient to carry this support forward, Atik used the phrase, “This wind is not an Özel wind, it is an İmamoğlu wind.”

MANSUR YAVAŞ SURPASSED ÖZEL AND İMAMOĞLU

According to poll data, Mansur Yavaş's name received support not only from CHP voters but also from undecided voters and those who vote for other parties.

However, it was noted that there is talk in the corridors that Özgür Özel is distant from Yavaş and prefers to act with his own team.

FATİH ATİK: “MANSUR YAVAŞ'S CANDIDACY IS NOT CERTAIN”

TGRT Ankara representative Fatih Atik made the following assessment regarding the candidacy process in the CHP:

“If poll results are truly going to be decisive, Mansur Yavaş is leading by a wide margin. But my personal opinion is that there is serious hesitation within the CHP regarding Özgür Özel and his close staff nominating Mansur Yavaş. In other words, a distance may form between the public's demand and the party's decision-making mechanisms.”
