Police statement revealed: Strange question to İmamoğlu's bodyguard! 'Why are you so close?'

The statement given by Bektaş Kamburoğlu, the close protection officer of İBB Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, following his detention process, has been reflected in the press.

According to information shared by BirGün columnist Timur Soykan, Kamburoğlu's statement addressed his closeness to İmamoğlu and the contacts he established with his family and colleagues in detail.

Bektaş Kamburoğlu, who was detained at his home in Beşiktaş Etiler on Saturday, February 7, was held at the police station for two days. After his procedures were completed, Kamburoğlu was referred to the Istanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan and was released under judicial control conditions.

It was learned that the first question asked to Kamburoğlu in his police statement was whether he "wanted to benefit from effective remorse." Kamburoğlu responded negatively to this question, stating that he had no membership in any organization.

It was noted that Kamburoğlu, born in 1977 in the Of district of Trabzon, had previously worked as a bodyguard for various politicians and business people, served as Ekrem İmamoğlu's close protection officer from his time as Beylikdüzü Mayor until his arrest, and is still employed within the İBB subsidiary İSTGÜVEN.

During the statement process, questions were directed regarding Ekrem İmamoğlu's father Hasan İmamoğlu, his son Mehmet Selim İmamoğlu, and his brother-in-law Cevat Kaya, as well as his family and close working circle. While Kamburoğlu was asked about his relationship with a total of 27 people, his phone calls and cell tower signals with these individuals were also made a subject of investigation.

The interrogation also included information that Kamburoğlu had 247 phone conversations with Murat Ongun between 2019 and 2024. Regarding these calls, Kamburoğlu said he communicated to ensure coordination as required by his job description.

The incident involving the taping of cameras at the Le Meridien Hotel, which was included in the İBB indictment, was also among the topics of the statement. Kamburoğlu stated that he was on leave on the day in question and that his phone might have given a signal because his house is located approximately 500 meters from the hotel.

Allegations regarding the removal of camera devices at the İBB Presidential Residence were also brought up. Kamburoğlu stated that he was at the residence for duty but had no information regarding the removal or destruction of the cameras.

LETTER PHOTOS ALSO IN THE FILE

The presence of photos of two letters sent by Ekrem İmamoğlu from prison and by İBB Protection Manager Mustafa Akın in his phone examination was also questioned. Kamburoğlu said the letters were delivered to him through lawyers and that he kept them because they contained friendly content.

It was learned that Bektaş Kamburoğlu was released on the condition of signing in every two weeks and a travel ban abroad.
