'RTE is very tired!' Pro-government columnist calls for Erdoğan's retirement: He even named his successor
Yüksel Okur, a columnist for the Akit newspaper known for its proximity to the government, has called on President Erdoğan to retire. Stating that Erdoğan is tired, Okur also named the person he wants to see replace him.
While economic difficulties and operations against opposition municipalities have brought early election discussions to the agenda, Erdoğan is still expected to be the AKP's candidate in the 2025 elections. However, among some figures close to the government, opinions are being voiced that Erdoğan should now 'retire'.
Akit newspaper columnist Yüksel Okur, in his latest piece, called on Erdoğan to retire, stating that he 'should now make time for himself and his family'.
'WE CANNOT BLINDLY SAY'LET HIM GO'''
Okur began his article by targeting the CHP. Claiming that 'the CHP is trying to prevent Erdoğan from working,' the author argued that the President does not govern Turkey with a 'one-man regime' and that he performs his duties within the framework of the powers granted by the Constitution.
Using the phrases, 'Labels like absolute monarchy or dictatorship do not fit Erdoğan. If you are looking for a dictator, look at the single-party era,' Okur did not refrain from making a comparison between Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and a dictator.
'HE SHOULD MAKE TIME FOR HIMSELF AND HIS FAMILY'
Continuing his article by saying that Erdoğan is now tired, Okur used the following expressions:
'We also want the man of the nation, RTE, who is very tired, to make time for himself and his family for the rest of his life! We cannot blindly say, like you do, 'Let him go, whoever comes, let it be, no matter what happens to the country.' Because we have a love for our country and our nation.'
'EVEN IF THE GREAT PLANE TREE FALLS, THERE IS ASAPLING'
In his article, Yüksel Okur described Erdoğan as a 'great plane tree' and pointed to Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan as his successor. Okur stated the following: 'Even if he were to fall and go, he has certainly raised a Fidan (sapling) to fill his place. So, do not dream in vain that 'the field will be left to us' when he is gone.'
