The PKK, a terrorist organization that Turkey has been fighting for years, has announced its decision to lay down arms and dissolve. In a statement released after the organization's 12th Congress, held between May 5-7, it was stated that the PKK has ended its organizational activities and will no longer resort to armed struggle methods.

A NEW PROCESS BEGAN WITH BAHÇELİ'S CALL

The call made by MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli from the podium of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) was the first sign of this process. Bahçeli had stated that if the isolation of terrorist leader Abdullah Öcalan were lifted, he could speak at the DEM Party group meeting in the TBMM. Following this statement, a DEM Party delegation went to İmralı Island and began meetings with Öcalan.

As a result of the meetings, terrorist Abdullah Öcalan called on the PKK to lay down its arms. Following this call, the organization held a congress on May 5-7. Subsequently, the expected announcement came. The organization announced that it had completed its historical mission and was ending its activities.

The statement made by the PKK included the following expressions:

“The PKK has completed its historical mission. The 12th Congress of the PKK has decided to dissolve the PKK's organizational structure and end the method of armed struggle, thereby terminating all activities carried out under the name of the PKK.”

ROADMAP FOR THE NEW ERA

Following the terrorist organization PKK's decision to lay down arms, the roadmap to be followed has also emerged. According to reports by Zübeyde Yalçın and Halit Turan from the Sabah newspaper, the new phase in democratization will begin in September. The steps to be followed in this new process are as follows:

The PKK will lay down its arms within a 3-4 month period in designated areas in northern Iraq.

The organization will provide the state with information regarding its arsenals, caves, and storage points.

Organization members will be subject to legal proceedings. Individuals with no criminal record will be integrated into society in a controlled manner.

The so-called high-level leaders of the PKK will not be allowed to remain in Syria.

The process regarding the YPG will be carried out in coordination with the Syrian administration. Individuals involved in these structures will be integrated into the Syrian National Army.

There will be no sudden change in Turkey's security policies. However, the democratization process will be moved to a new dimension.
