Striking detail in IMM investigation: Acquittal ignored!
In the investigation into the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM), a record stating that Prof. Dr. Mesut Yeğen—who allegedly received a money transfer from Ekrem İmamoğlu—was previously tried on charges of membership in a terrorist organization was presented as evidence. However, information regarding Yeğen's acquittal in that case was not added to the file.
A striking detail has emerged in the investigation conducted into the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM).
While various criminal records, diagrams showing organizational connections, MASAK reports, and secret witness testimonies were presented as evidence in the file of the three individuals arrested within the scope of the investigation, a striking detail regarding Prof. Dr. Mesut Yeğen, who is alleged to have connections to IMM Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, was also included.
According to the report by Özgür Cebe from Sözcü, court records indicating that Yeğen was previously tried on charges of "membership in a terrorist organization" were presented as evidence in the file. However, no information was included regarding the fact that Yeğen was acquitted in this case.
It was learned that Yeğen was tried in 2019 at the Diyarbakır 8th High Criminal Court on the grounds that he attended a Democratic Society Congress (DTK) meeting, that the prosecutor expressed an opinion in favor of acquittal, and that the court issued an acquittal verdict. Moreover, this decision became final within a week as the prosecutor did not appeal.
Legal experts criticized the absence of the acquittal decision in the investigation file, emphasizing that this omission could lead to both Yeğen being portrayed as guilty and the creation of a perception that İmamoğlu has established relationships with individuals linked to terrorist organizations.
