The agenda in CHP is the primary election... What will be Mansur Yavaş's roadmap? The İmamoğlu detail drew attention
Turkish Press Federation President Sinan Burhan made notable statements regarding a possible presidential primary election within the CHP. Burhan spoke about the possibility that Mansur Yavaş would not enter the primary. Burhan stated that in the decision Yavaş will make, he will primarily wait for İmamoğlu.
The Republican People's Party's (CHP) decision to determine its presidential candidate through a primary election has sparked a new debate on the political agenda.
The differing statements made by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu and Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (ABB) Mayor Mansur Yavaş, who are both prominent figures for the candidacy, regarding candidate determination and the primary election, drew attention.
ABB Mayor Yavaş made the following statement regarding the primary election his party will hold to determine its presidential candidate: "I am of the opinion that it is too early to determine a candidate. The election date is not yet clear. Conditions will change by then. I am of the opinion that the public should not be preoccupied with this while there is economic hardship. I think candidates should not exhaust each other's energy."
SUPPORT FOR THE PRIMARY FROM İMAMOĞLU
IMM Mayor İmamoğlu, who gives full support to the primary election, responded to Yavaş's words regarding the primary and candidacy by saying, "Our esteemed mayor Mansur Yavaş's view may be different, but we will still discuss these. These are intra-party matters. We will find the most correct path. We have to describe a process where all our hands are raised together."
In a press conference he held on February 7, Yavaş closed the doors to candidacy discussions. Emphasizing that the country's real agenda is the economy, Yavaş stated, "They have been debating who the candidate will be for 5 years. I think they are debating it on purpose now. Our priority is the economy, and if you want to change the government, the first thing to do is to take care of these poor people and change the government that way."
At the end of the meeting, when asked by a journalist, "It is also said that the CHP aims to announce a candidate and prevent the debate. What do you think about these issues?", Yavaş replied, "We will stand by our retirees and minimum wage earners until the end."
CHP Chairman Özgür Özel will meet with ABB Mayor Yavaş and IMM Mayor İmamoğlu in Ankara today before the Party Assembly (PM) meeting where the primary election decision will be taken. It is expected that objections regarding the primary election decision will be addressed and a middle ground will be sought during the meeting.
If the Party Assembly decides to hold a primary election despite the objections, it has become a matter of curiosity whether Mansur Yavaş will participate in the election.
While all these developments continue to maintain their heat on the agenda, Turkish Press Federation President Sinan Burhan, Turkish Veterans and Martyrs' Families Foundation President Lokman Aylar, and Journalist Talat Atilla participated in a television program.
In the program where evaluations regarding the agenda were made, Sinan Burhan made striking statements about the presidential primary election to be held in the CHP.
'YAVAŞ WILL NOT ENTER THE PRIMARY'
Emphasizing that Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu wants to be a candidate in the primary, Burhan said, "Mr. Ekrem will push for an early election as soon as possible." Stating that "Mansur Yavaş will not enter a primary election he will lose," Sinan Burhan explained a striking detail with these words: "It is certain that Mansur Yavaş will lose the primary. The smartest thing Mr. Mansur can do is not to enter the primary.
Mansur Yavaş will do the following: First, he will not enter the primary. Second, he will wait for Mr. Ekrem's legal process."
Stating that if İmamoğlu receives a sentence, Yavaş will enter the election as the sole candidate, Burhan said, "If he does not receive a sentence and becomes the CHP's candidate, Mr. Mansur will part ways with the CHP along with nationalist parties and center-right parties and become a candidate himself."
