Claims that PKK terrorist organization leader Abdullah Öcalan will be held under house arrest on Imralı Island have caused a major stir in public opinion. According to a report by Türkiye Gazetesi, the DEM Party Imralı delegation is in constant contact with high-level security units.

The delegation, which included Pervin Buldan and Sırrı Süreyya Önder from the DEM Party, traveled to Imralı on December 28, 2024, to hold a meeting with Abdullah Öcalan.

It was stated that the delegation was in constant contact with high-level security units before and after this meeting.

According to the report, security officials warned delegation members that the process should not be jeopardized by statements that would draw public backlash. The message given was, “This process carries a historical responsibility; one must be careful.”

WHAT ARE ÖCALAN'S DEMANDS?

It is alleged that Abdullah Öcalan has conveyed certain demands for the second meeting. Öcalan's demands include the following:

Making secondary regulations regarding the definition of terrorism,

Taking steps regarding sick prisoners,

Re-evaluating the appointment of trustees (kayyım).

It is stated that intelligence units kept minutes during the meetings and conducted detailed analyses on how the messages given would be perceived by the organization. It was noted that the relevant state units are working with great sensitivity, particularly on the text that will contain the call to lay down arms.

HOUSE ARREST DECISION MADE

Claims that Öcalan's conditions on Imralı will be converted to house arrest are also on the agenda. However, it is emphasized that there is a lack of trust within the state toward both the organization and Öcalan. In particular, the possibility that the expressions between the lines of Öcalan's messages could be abused by the organization is being focused on.

MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli said in a statement on October 22, 2024, that if Abdullah Öcalan completely disbands the organization, it could even be possible for him to speak at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. Stating that the process must be concluded, Bahçeli said, “The end of the PKK must be declared.”
