Government to create 'Constitution pool' in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey
The AKP is preparing to accelerate its efforts for a new constitution with the reopening of parliament. A proposal pool will be established in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) to collect constitutional suggestions, and concrete steps toward drafting the constitution will be taken after a six-month process.
The AKP aims to make the "new constitution" debate the most important agenda item of the parliament with the opening of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) on October 1.
The ruling party plans to conduct a broad-participation process in its constitutional work and is preparing to create a "constitution pool" in the TBMM. It was stated that suggestions regarding the constitution will be collected through this pool, and the goal is to move on to drafting the constitution after a six-month proposal period.
CONSTITUTIONAL TRAFFIC IS ACCELERATING
According to a report by Türkiye Gazetesi, there will be significant activity regarding constitutional work in the new legislative year of the TBMM. It was stated that TBMM Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş will continue the consultation tours with political parties, which he initiated before the parliament went on recess, after the legislative year begins.
However, a positive stance on constitutional amendment is not expected from the opposition front. On the People's Alliance side, it was stated that the 100-article proposal previously prepared by the MHP and the constitutional drafts prepared by the AKP in previous periods could be used for the work.

BROAD PARTICIPATION TARGETED
The AKP plans to create a proposal pool in the TBMM to ensure broad participation in the constitutional amendment process.
With this system, everyone who wishes, especially non-governmental organizations, universities, political parties, and professional organizations, will be given the opportunity to submit their proposals regarding the constitution to this pool. The proposal submission process will be limited to six months, and at the end of this period, concrete steps will be taken in parliament for the drafting of the constitution.
OPPOSITION SUPPORT IS ESSENTIAL
At the end of this process, which will be carried out with the support of the People's Alliance, the support of opposition parties will also be required for the constitution to pass through the TBMM. Since constitutional amendments require a qualified majority in parliament, it is not possible for the process to succeed without the contribution of the opposition. For this reason, the ruling party will continue its contacts with the opposition and seek ways to reach a consensus.
