Hakan Fidan's very stern message to the SDF: 'It must bid farewell to terror'

Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan made statements regarding the latest situation in Syria during a joint press conference held with Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Hamad Al Busaidi. Fidan warned specifically about the threat of terrorism and drew attention to the negative repercussions of the difficulties Syria is facing on regional security.

STRIKING MESSAGE TO THE SDF

Speaking at the press conference, Fidan stated that the current approach of the SDF poses a serious obstacle to peace and security in the region, and used the following expressions:

'This uncompromising attitude is contrary to the realities of Syria and our region. The SDF must now bid farewell to terror and separatism.'

Fidan noted that the increasing violence in the region, and particularly the attacks on civilians in Aleppo, are damaging hopes for peace, and said that achieving peace and stability in Syria has become difficult due to the SDF's 'insistence on protecting what it holds at any cost.'

Underlining that Turkey's goal is for lasting peace and stability to come to Syria, the Foreign Minister pointed out that the region needs prosperity more than ever. Fidan said, 'The SDF must now bid farewell to terror. Our region needs peace and prosperity more than ever before.'

Minister Fidan stated that Turkey plays a role in the region through diplomacy and dialogue, and expressed that Turkey will continue to be a guarantor of peace and stability. 'In line with this goal, we will continue to pursue a responsible, principled, and constructive foreign policy. We will maintain our stance in favor of dialogue, diplomacy, and justice,' he stated.

Stating that what is happening in Syria is very important in terms of national security, Fidan made the statement, 'The course of events in Syria is of extraordinary importance to us in terms of our national security. We are following it closely. We are also in coordination and contact with our necessary regional and international partners.'
