Harsh response from victims of 'set-ups' to Kılıçdaroğlu's FETÖ jab: 'It should not be political fodder'

Following a ruling of absolute nullity in the CHP, the chairmanship seat has returned to Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu. During a holiday greeting event held at the party headquarters after taking office, Kılıçdaroğlu targeted Özgür Özel and his team, stating, "I apologize to you for not realizing the FETÖ agents in time. I apologize to you for harboring those fools who sought help from external sources behind closed doors."

These statements have found wide repercussions in public opinion, and harsh criticism has come from the Association for Assistance and Solidarity for Victims of Set-ups (KUMPASDER), founded by former soldiers who were tried in the Balyoz and Ergenekon set-up cases that specifically targeted the Turkish Armed Forces.

"FETÖ ACCUSATION SHOULD NOT BE POLITICAL FODDER"

In the statement made by KUMPASDER, it was noted, "We watch with a bitter smile as those who did not give appointments to the spouses and relatives of Mustafa Kemal's innocent, blameless soldiers while they were being attempted to be buried alive in concrete, who did not answer the letters written, and who avoided being seen side-by-side with them and warned their deputies, now accuse their opponents of 'FETÖism'."

The association emphasized that the FETÖ issue should be a common concern of the country and stated that they view with concern the fact that this issue has recently become a subject of ordinary political debates. The statement said, "While the political supporters of FETÖ are being hidden, stamping everyone who comes along as a 'FETÖist' is almost equivalent to opening new breathing tubes for the organization. We know this structure, which can change its shape, very closely."

"WE HAVE NOT FORGOTTEN WHO SUPPORTED THE SET-UPS"

Continuing the statement, attention was drawn to the grievances experienced in the set-up cases, and the following assessments were included:

"We were victimized during the process that began in 2007, when Turkey was intended to be transformed in line with US interests and the Greater Middle East Project (BOP). We were subjected to set-ups organized by Fethullahist structures that were organized in many levels of the state with the support of the political power. We know that this mentality and its remnants still exist at different levels today."

Pointing out that the law and justice system was further corrupted by FETÖ, KUMPASDER said, "We watch with sadness that while justice should be repaired, the immoral and illegal methods produced in that period have begun to be applied to others." Furthermore, it noted that they do not find the current FETÖ accusations sincere from those who did not support the victims of the set-ups in the past and refused to make their voices heard.

"THE TRUTH CANNOT BE COVERED UP"

At the end of the association's statement, it was emphasized, "Our country's agenda changes very quickly and many things may be forgotten. However, we have never forgotten who was by our side during the period of FETÖ set-ups, who left us alone, or who waited for an opportunity to bury us. What everyone did on the night of July 15 is also in our memories."

KUMPASDER also stated that they are grateful to those who were in solidarity with them during the period when set-ups were being established against Turkey. It was also underlined that accusations regarding FETÖ must be handled carefully and responsibly in the political arena.
