He gave a date: 'Early election' rumor from CHP's Ali Mahir Başarır

Republican People's Party (CHP) Mersin Deputy and Group Deputy Chairman Ali Mahir Başarır was a guest on the program Para Politika with Özlem Gürses, broadcast on Sözcü TV.

Due to the house arrest decision issued against Gürses, Ali Mahir Başarır made notable statements during the live broadcast conducted from her home.

Speaking about the AKP coming out ahead in election polls following developments in Syria, Başarır drew attention to the economic trajectory, saying, "You will see in the polls conducted at the end of January that the difference will be 6-7 points."

Gürses then reminded Ali Mahir Başarır of the rumors circulating in the lobbies regarding a 'revision of the presidential system.'

Stating, "The ruling side has a political strategy and design. Within this design, a demand for a revision to the presidential system has been voiced in the lobbies for a long time," Gürses noted the following:

"The President said on a plane trip that 'Of course a revision is needed,' but then after the MHP showed a harsh reaction, a U-turn was made. It is now said that the ruling party is preparing for a return to the parliamentary system again."

When Özlem Gürses reminded him of Zafer Party leader Ümit Özdağ's claim of a snap election in June or November, CHP's Başarır said, "There are also those who say the end of August. This is purely a rumor."

Başarır said the following:

"There is, of course, a return to the parliamentary system. We also have this desire. But not with these gentlemen. Not as a rescue apparatus for Mr. Recep, but the new parliament, the 29th Term deputies, the President, the ruling power will do this.

We have no steps to take with him regarding the constitution, and we cannot have any."
