CHP LEADER ÖZGÜR ÖZEL HAD POINTED TO 2025

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel had spoken as follows regarding early elections:

"November 2025 is the date we called upon Mr. Erdoğan. It was debated extensively in the past whether 'this is his 2nd term or 3rd term.' Even though the constitution stated otherwise, they were saying, 'This is our 2nd term after the constitutional amendment.' The Supreme Election Council (YSK) agreed with this idea and made a decision in this direction. Even though the president renewed the elections, he was able to run again. In this case, in his 3rd term, if he decides to call for an election now, within his 2nd term, he cannot run again; it is very clear. According to the YSK's decision and their own past terms, in the process where they said they were running for a 2nd term, the constitution states: 'If 360 deputies in Parliament decide to call for an election, the incumbent President can run one last time.' The Justice and Development Party does not have the majority to achieve this together with the MHP. They need us, the opposition. To reach the number 360, we have one sentence for them; right down the middle, meaning half of these 5 years is yours, half is ours. If you come in the 2.5th year and decide to call for an early election, we are in; let's renew the elections. After that, don't come knocking on our door again. In other words, if Erdoğan has the intention to run again, the final date is November 2025."
