'He said 'Next is İspark'... Mansur Yavaş's remarks on Cem Küçük: 'Cem Küçük should be summoned to the prosecutor's office'

Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş, in a statement made before the Union of Municipalities of Türkiye Assembly Meeting, reacted to journalist Cem Küçük's remarks regarding the operations targeting the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB). In response to Cem Küçük's comments on television, where he said, "In my opinion, there will be an operation on İSPARK as well. İSPARK is the only one left that hasn't been operated on," Yavaş drew attention to the principle of the rule of law, arguing that such statements both influence the judiciary and lead to disinformation in the public eye.

"IF IT'S TRUE, IT'S AN OBSTRUCTION OF THE INVESTIGATION; IF FALSE, IT'S DISINFORMATION"

Yavaş used the following expressions in his statement:

"No statement that would influence the judiciary to this extent can be made regarding an ongoing trial. But we saw it two days ago; a commentator on television says, 'Next is İSPARK.' The next day, this commentator should be summoned to the prosecutor's office. He should be summoned for two reasons. If it's true, he should be asked, 'Why did you announce it? They will take precautions; you have obstructed the investigation.' If there is no such thing, he should still be summoned to testify and asked, 'Why are you creating disinformation?'"

Yavaş emphasized that it is essential for these statements by Cem Küçük to be subjected to a legal evaluation.

"THE LAW IS NECESSARY FOR EVERYONE AND MUST BE APPLIED EQUALLY TO EVERYONE"

Continuing his speech, Mansur Yavaş emphasized the rule of law and stated that not only mayors but all citizens must be equal before the law: "The law is necessary for everyone and must be applied equally to everyone. As all mayors, we are already shouting this. Everything in the public sector and in municipalities must be explained transparently. No one is exempt from being judged. If such protection is being provided, everything will eventually come to light one day anyway."

WHAT DID CEM KÜÇÜK SAY?

Journalist Cem Küçük, in his assessment during a television program regarding the recent increase in investigations into the İBB, had used the expressions, "In my opinion, there will be an operation on İSPARK as well. İSPARK is the only one left that hasn't been operated on. I don't think there will be any other subsidiary besides İSPARK."
