He showed a 'red card' to Erdoğan: Ali Babacan harshly criticized Murat Kurum's election promise

DEVA Party Chairman Ali Babacan made statements regarding the current agenda on Cadde TV.

Speaking about the local elections on March 31, 2024, Babacan harshly criticized AKP and MHP's Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) mayoral candidate Murat Kurum.

Stating that Kurum's promise to "build 650,000 earthquake-resistant housing units in Istanbul" is unrealistic, Babacan said the following;

“The ruling party's candidate says I will build 650,000 housing units. Wait a minute, my friend, stop, slow down, take a breath. An earthquake happened in Maraş, Erdoğan came out and what did he say in March? He said, 'We will build 312,000 housing units in 1 year.' The number of units that TOKİ itself announced as ready for key delivery, but have not yet been delivered, is only 46,000. The number of housing units delivered in Maraş is not even 10 percent of their promise.”

Babacan also gave the following answer to the question, “If you had only one right, who would you want to show a red card to in Turkish politics?”:

“To Mr. Erdoğan, of course. I mean, he is the one at the head of the country and the government today. Well, good things happened in Turkey for a period. He was the prime minister during that time too, okay, but he couldn't do whatever he wanted back then. Because there were checks and balances systems. Not everything that came to his mind happened. I mean, he couldn't dominate the Central Bank, but then things changed. We established a three-term rule, and he himself broke that rule.”
