Decisions have been announced in the "terrorism and corruption" investigations launched by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office into the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) and IMM Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu. According to the decisions announced today, 5 people, including Ekrem İmamoğlu, IMM Media AŞ Chairman of the Board Murat Ongun, Construction Industry Inc. General Manager Tuncay Yılmaz, Şişli Mayor Resul Emrah Şahan, and Beylikdüzü Mayor Mehmet Murat Çalık, were arrested.

İMAMOĞLU ARRESTED IN CORRUPTION INVESTIGATION

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu was arrested by the duty magistrate's court as part of the "corruption" investigation and sent to the Marmara Closed Penal Execution Institution (Silivri Prison). However, the request for his arrest in the investigation regarding the accusation of "aiding an armed terrorist organization," which was being conducted simultaneously, was rejected.

REMOVAL FROM OFFICE DECISION BY THE MINISTRY

Following the arrest of Ekrem İmamoğlu, the Ministry of Interior decided to remove him from office. In the Ministry's statement, it was said, "Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu has been arrested for the crimes of recording personal data unlawfully, accepting bribes, rigging tenders of public institutions or organizations, and establishing an organization for the purpose of committing crimes; he has been temporarily removed from office by the Ministry of Interior in accordance with Article 127 of the Constitution and Article 47 of the Municipal Law No. 5393."
