HÜDA PAR has nominated a former Hezbollah member for the Tekirdağ Metropolitan Municipality.

It has emerged that Cemal Çınar, known as the former Hezbollah representative for Şanlıurfa/Hilvan, has been nominated as the candidate for the Tekirdağ Metropolitan Municipality.

According to a report by Aytunç Ürkmez from Cumhuriyet; Çınar, who served as an imam between 1984 and 2000, had previously made headlines for conducting Hezbollah propaganda while serving as an imam in the village of Alakonak in Hilvan. In March 1998, during an operation targeting Hezbollah, Çınar was detained on the grounds of “creating a base for the organization through propaganda and agitation activities.” 

ACQUITTED IN 2013

The then-General Director of Security, Salih Tuzcu, stated in an interview with newspapers at the time regarding Çınar and the organization's activities in the region: “He was trying to create a base for the organization by giving lessons in mosques. They beat mosque imams who were not like them or who did not belong to them, threatened them with knives, forced them out of the district, and began giving lessons in the mosques themselves. This organization is attempting to divide and fragment the state and is using religion as a tool for political propaganda.”

Çınar, who was also tried in the main Hezbollah case, was acquitted in 2013 along with Hacı İnan, the head of Hezbollah's military wing, and Mehmet Göktaş, one of the writers for the organization's propaganda magazine “İnzar,” on the grounds that it could not be proven that they had committed the crime of “being a member of the Hezbollah terrorist organization.”
