High tension in Ankara: CHP deputies are marching toward Headquarters!

Following the cancellation of his diploma, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu was detained this morning. CHP deputies reacted to the situation. The CHP deputies gathered in the square are marching toward the CHP Headquarters.

THEY HAVE BEGUN THE MARCH TO CHP HEADQUARTERS

The Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) General Assembly session was closed after CHP deputies, who occupied the podium to protest the detention of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, did not end their occupation; the deputies who left the TBMM are now marching to the CHP Headquarters.

CHP Group Deputy Chairman Ali Mahir Başarır reacted to the detention of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu this morning during his speech at the TBMM General Assembly, while CHP deputies also came to the podium during Başarır's speech to protest the decision alongside him.

"THERE IS NO SALVATION ALONE"

After Başarır finished his speech, the CHP deputies continued their occupation of the podium, chanting slogans such as "There is no salvation alone; either all together or none of us," "Do not be silent, if you remain silent, your turn will come," and "Rights, law, justice."

WHAT HAPPENED?

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu was detained this morning.

According to the statement made by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, İmamoğlu is facing charges of both corruption and terrorism.

In the statement, the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office described İmamoğlu as a "suspect and leader of a criminal organization."

In the same operations, approximately 100 people, including Şişli Mayor Resul Ekrem Şahan and artist Ercan Saatçi, were detained.

Journalist İsmail Saymaz was also detained as part of a third investigation.
