Highly debated claim regarding Öcalan: The 'house arrest' detail

MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli's remarks directed at PKK leader Öcalan, stating 'Let him speak at the DEM Party group podium in Parliament and announce that the PKK has been disbanded,' continue to be a subject of discussion in the political arena.

Following these developments, a noteworthy claim regarding PKK leader Öcalan has been put forward.

Journalist Nuray Babacan included claims circulating in political circles regarding Abdullah Öcalan—whom MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli called upon to announce that the PKK would lay down its arms in Parliament—in her column.

'HE HAS NO DEMAND TO BE RELEASED!'

Stating that there are comments suggesting the desires and demands of the organized structure do not fully align with those of the people on the street, Babacan noted that a segment believing Öcalan still holds power over the PKK claims, "Abdullah Öcalan has no demand to be released; let alone coming to Parliament, he is reportedly willing to accept house arrest somewhere within Turkey."

On the other hand, according to Babacan, regional politicians analyzing this plan—which remains controversial and which the AKP has not sincerely embraced—suggest that the plan Bahçeli has constructed around Abdullah Öcalan could ensure the PKK is completely disbanded and lays down its arms within Turkey's borders. However, the possibility that the PKK leadership might remain part of the Kurdish structure outside Turkey's borders is not being ignored.
