A highly discussed claim about Istanbul regarding certain names in the CHP! 'They want it to be lost...'
It has been claimed that some prominent figures within the Republican People's Party (CHP) want Istanbul to be lost in the local elections.
As the local elections approach, the candidate selection process within the Republican People's Party (CHP) has become the center of attention due to ongoing debates and resignations.
Gürsel Tekin, one of the most talked-about figures to resign, explained the background of his resignation during a television program, where he effectively took Chairman Özgür Özel and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu to task.
With less than 2 months left until the local elections, a striking claim has been put forward.
According to a behind-the-scenes report by Cumhuriyet columnist Barış Pehlivan; some prominent figures within the CHP want Istanbul to be lost in the local elections on March 31, 2024.
"I heard this from someone who has been breathing the corridors of the CHP for many years. What a sad claim it was. In the country's founding party, there were those who desired to return Istanbul to a system of plunder just to sit in the seat they wanted," said Pehlivan, continuing as follows;
"The CHP is experiencing an election process where grievances, accusations, and resignations are talked about more than promises. Whichever faction I speak to within the party, their greatest common point is dissatisfaction. The more painful part of the matter is that the source of the unhappiness is not related to the country, but to the balance of power within the party."
Pehlivan, who directed questions about claims of an extraordinary party congress after the local elections to CHP Group Deputy Chairman Ali Mahir Başarır, carried the following response to his column: "How many elections were lost in this party over 13 years? Who called for a congress because they lost? Look, we will win all provinces again, from Istanbul to Ankara. Even so, there will be those who want to go to a congress. Well, the bylaws are there."
