His candidacy had sparked controversy: First statement from Lütfü Savaş after casting his vote

In Hatay, one of the cities most affected by the February 6 earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş, Hatay Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Lütfü Savaş and his wife Nazan Savaş cast their votes at Ballıöz Primary School in the Defne district.

Speaking to members of the press after casting his vote, Mayor Savaş said, “Today there were metropolitan, district, and neighborhood headman (muhtar) elections. There were also municipal council member and council member candidate elections. My wife, my children, and I cast our votes and left. Hopefully, it will be auspicious for our democracy and for the people in Hatay and Turkey. May there be cities where the person who deserves it wins and which are governed with a sense of fairness. Best of luck.”
