His candidacy had sparked controversy: First statement from Lütfü Savaş after casting his vote
Hatay Metropolitan Municipality Mayor and CHP Hatay Metropolitan Municipality mayoral candidate Lütfü Savaş has cast his vote. Savaş stated, "It should be an election where the person who deserves it wins."
In Hatay, one of the cities most affected by the February 6 earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş, Hatay Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Lütfü Savaş and his wife Nazan Savaş cast their votes at Ballıöz Primary School in the Defne district.
Speaking to members of the press after casting his vote, Mayor Savaş said, “Today there were metropolitan, district, and neighborhood headman (muhtar) elections. There were also municipal council member and council member candidate elections. My wife, my children, and I cast our votes and left. Hopefully, it will be auspicious for our democracy and for the people in Hatay and Turkey. May there be cities where the person who deserves it wins and which are governed with a sense of fairness. Best of luck.”

HIS CANDIDACY HAD SPARKED CONTROVERSY
During the process in which the CHP determined its mayoral candidates, Lütfü Savaş had caused reactions both in the public eye and within the party. Savaş was protested in Hatay during the commemorations for those who lost their lives on the anniversary of the February 6 earthquakes.
