Hundreds of youth gather at the 'Deniz Gezmiş Fully Independent Turkey Meeting'

The Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) youth organization, Communist Youth of Turkey (TKG), had announced that it would gather under the banner of Deniz Gezmiş to take the country's destiny into their own hands and for a fully independent, sovereign, egalitarian, and secular republic.

In this context, the TKG organized the “Deniz Gezmiş Fully Independent Turkey Meeting” at Ankara's Sakarya Square on the 52nd anniversary of the death of the Three Saplings.

HUNDREDS OF YOUTH SANG THE GÜNDOĞDU MARCH

The meeting began at 16:00 with hundreds of youth singing the “Gündoğdu March” in unison.

The large gathering, which turned into a rally, continued with the reading of Nazım Hikmet’s “Traitor to the Homeland” and Can Yücel’s “Mare Nostrum” (Our Sea) poems.

Students from many different universities and high schools also participated in the meeting, where TKP, Palestine, and Turkish flags were carried, with their own placards. Throughout the meeting, slogans such as “NATO get out, this country is ours!”, “Imperialists, collaborators, fear the TKP, we are on duty!”, “Our promise to the Denizes will be revolution!” and “Free Palestine from the river to the sea!” were frequently chanted.

'CAN ONE MAKE PEACE WITH COUNTER-REVOLUTION? YOU SETTLE ACCOUNTS'

The rally continued with a speech by TKP Central Committee member Berkay Kemal Önoğlu. In his speech, Önoğlu touched upon the situation in Turkey, the policies pursued by NATO, and those who push youth toward being numbed.

Highlights from Önoğlu's speech are as follows:

The majority of our youth are trying to make sense of this collapse; society is unorganized, and unfortunately, our society is tired. We said the Republic has collapsed, and those who collapsed the Republic are right there. Now they want to quietly make our society make peace with the counter-revolution. Our society is being pushed to shake hands with those who destroyed the Republic. We ask: can one make peace with counter-revolution? You settle accounts with counter-revolution, you defeat counter-revolution. We will win!

This issue is urgent. The tensions in our region are clear; we will not allow a single one of our citizens, a single one of our youth, to follow NATO, nor will we allow a single drop of their blood to be shed.

We will raise our young friends who are intended to be numbed and used as fodder for false polarizations; we will definitely succeed. First and foremost, the Communist Party of Turkey, the Communist Youth of Turkey, and Leftist High School Students will lead the way, and we will extend a friendly hand to our friends to get out of this quagmire.

Following Önoğlu's speech, red paint was symbolically poured over images of US President Joe Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, as well as the NATO flag.

While the rally ended after the paint protest, hundreds of youth held a march accompanied by slogans.

The meeting concluded after the march held on Yüksel Street and Konur Street.
