Call to the opposition from İmamoğlu! 'For social awareness...'

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor and CHP presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu, who is currently detained at Marmara Prison in Silivri, has shared a new message through his lawyers.

İmamoğlu, this time addressed the opposition and issued a call for "solidarity."

Stating that "every initiative in our country has a duty," İmamoğlu pointed to the opposition, saying, "The opposition needs to take steps that will create social awareness during the most critical periods of our history."

Referring to the visit by IYI Party leader Müsavat Dervişoğlu, İmamoğlu made the following remarks:

"I had the opportunity to discuss the situation of our country with IYI Party Chairman Mr. Müsavat Dervişoğlu, who honored me with a great gesture of friendship during Eid al-Adha and who has not left the CHP, me, or my family alone under the most difficult conditions since March 19. As the Chairman also expressed, a unified opposition will guide our nation in many ways and enable us to strengthen a constructive opposition during this period of deep crises."

İmamoğlu emphasized, "The opposition, which warns the government, shows the right path, and expresses the silent cry of the nation in the most accurate way, must be able to share with our nation how we can emerge from the multiple crises we are experiencing and what an 'internal front' to be formed under the roof of the TBMM would look like."

The full text of Ekrem İmamoğlu's message is as follows:

"As Turkey experiences one of the most critical periods in its history, we are facing multifaceted crises that require us to be on high alert. The crises of justice, economy, and democracy, for which we have paid a very high price and which deeply affect our country, are shaking our nation. The Presidential Government System, which is the root cause of these deep crises our country is experiencing, continues to cause our nation to suffer a great depression.

The civil coup of March 19, which took place during such a period when we are going through difficult days and need to quickly recover as Turkey, has imposed a cost exceeding 150 billion dollars on our economy; it has triggered a period in which all sectors have suffered losses and we have broken world records in unemployment, poverty, interest rates, and inflation.

In this period when crises in the world and our region are escalating, the impact of the war, which turned into a serious global crisis with Israel's attack on Iran, stands before us as a new cost in addition to the economic, legal, and social problems our country is experiencing.

Every initiative in our country has a duty.

The politics of democracy, prosperity, and peace that we will create against the politics of crisis, chaos, and instability pursued by the government in our country is our nation's greatest need. The opposition needs to take steps that will create social awareness during the most critical periods of our history.
