İmamoğlu: Our democratic sentiments are finding resonance in society

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu visited Turkey's Ambassador to Paris, Yunus Demirer, and subsequently Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo during his trip to France. Emphasizing that it is time to discuss democracy both in Turkey and across the world, İmamoğlu said, "Our democratic sentiments have not been struggling to find resonance in society recently." 

IMM Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, who is in France for official meetings, made his first visit to the Republic of Turkey's Ambassador to Paris, Yunus Demirer. Hosted by Demirer at the Turkish Embassy building in Paris, İmamoğlu also visited Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo in her office. Inviting European mayors to a meeting to be held in Paris tomorrow, Hidalgo congratulated İmamoğlu, whom she hosted in the historic city hall, on his success in the March 31, 2024 local elections. 

'OUR NUMBER OF MUNICIPALITIES HAS DOUBLED'

Emphasizing that it is time to discuss democracy both in Turkey and across the world, İmamoğlu said, "Our democratic sentiments have truly not been struggling to find resonance in society recently. Therefore, the idea of bringing local administrators and mayors together in this way is very valuable at this time. Our success in the elections in Istanbul and throughout Turkey has raised our responsibilities to a much higher level. We have to be more successful. The number of municipalities we hold across Turkey has doubled. Now we will work harder. In the meantime, I wish you success in the Olympic Games," he said. 

THE MEETING LASTED 1 HOUR

Both mayors, who lead two of the world's most important cities, discussed the collaborations that have been and will be carried out between their cities during the meeting, which lasted approximately 1 hour.
