İmamoğlu qualifies for CHP primary: Election Board finalized

Gül Çiftci, Deputy Chairperson of the Republican People's Party (CHP) responsible for Election and Party Legal Affairs, announced on her social media account that the party's authorized bodies have declared Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu eligible to participate in the primary, and that CHP Chairman Özgür Özel has appointed the Chair and members of the Organization-Supervised Primary Central Board, which will oversee the process.

The following statements were included in Çiftci's social media post:

“The 'diploma' investigation launched against our Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor, Mr. Ekrem İmamoğlu, is an indicator of how much the ruling power fears the will and energy that will emerge during the organization-supervised primary process in which the Republican People's Party will determine its presidential candidate.

While the ruling power attempts to sabotage our primary process through judicial harassment and continues investigations that are completely baseless, we are continuing our march toward early elections by listening to the voice of the people.

In this context;

It has been declared by our authorized bodies that our Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, who meets the participation requirements in accordance with Article 15 of our directive and who applied within the period specified in the election calendar, is eligible to participate in the Presidential Candidate Organization-Supervised Primary we will hold on Sunday, March 23, 2025.

As stated in our election calendar; the printing of the ballots to be used in the primary will begin on Monday, February 24.

In accordance with Article 8 of our primary directive, our Chairman, Mr. Özgür Özel, has appointed the Chair and members of the Organization-Supervised Primary Central Board, who are responsible for ensuring the primary process is conducted in accordance with the law, party charter, regulations, and directives.

The board, which I will chair as the Deputy Chairperson responsible for Election and Party Legal Affairs, will include our Istanbul Deputy and High Disciplinary Board Chair Turan Taşkın Özer, our Aydın Deputy Bülent Tezcan, and our Party Assembly members Saniye Barut and Ali Abbas Ertürk.
