Imamoglu reacts sharply to operations in Adalar and Silifke
CHP presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu criticized the detention operations carried out in the early morning hours against the Adalar and Silifke municipalities, stating, "There is no need to look for a crime; being a member of the CHP is enough now."
Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, who is currently in prison, addressed the operations conducted yesterday morning at the Adalar and Silifke municipalities. In the dawn raids carried out at both municipalities, many people, including the mayors, were taken into custody.
While no official statement has been made by authorities regarding the justification for the operations, reactions from the CHP front were swift.
Ekrem İmamoğlu reacted to the detention of Adalar Mayor Ali Ercan Akpolat and Silifke Mayor Mustafa Turgut via his social media account. Using the phrase, "There is no need to look for a crime; being a CHP member is enough now to be taken into custody at the crack of dawn," Imamoglu also expressed his support for the mayors.
Imamoglu further stated that Adalar Mayor Akpolat had brought long-forgotten services to the district one after another, which had disturbed certain circles. He emphasized that Akpolat had made great efforts to find solutions to the chronic problems of the Adalar in harmony with the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. He also pointed out that Silifke Mayor Turgut was detained in a similar manner and sent a message of solidarity.
In his statement, Ekrem İmamoğlu said the following:
"The services that my dear fellow traveler, Adalar Mayor Ali Ercan Akpolat, has provided to our long-neglected Adalar district have clearly disturbed someone again.
I am a witness, as are all the residents of the islands, that he has worked day and night to solve the district's chronic problems by working in coordination with the IMM.
Our Mersin Silifke Mayor Mustafa Turgut is also in custody in the same way.
There is no need to look for a crime; being a CHP member is enough now to be taken into custody at the crack of dawn.
We stand with our mayors.
Something will change, everything will change!"
