İmamoğlu references Erdoğan's 'final election' remark: 'To end the polarization...'

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the Yenidoğan-Sancaktepe-Finance Center-Söğütlüçeşme Metro Line.

Speaking after the ceremony, İmamoğlu made references to AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and the People's Alliance's IMM mayoral candidate Murat Kurum.

"WE ENTERED THE ARENA IN 2019"

"Those who managed the IMM before us built 125 kilometers of metro in 25 years. Of course, I sincerely thank everyone who contributed," said İmamoğlu, adding:

"Those who built 125 kilometers of road in 25 years talk about it as if they had done a great job for years. Since there was no opportunity for comparison, they declared themselves metro champions. We entered the arena in 2019, and things changed a bit. As we built metros, their true picture began to emerge. We built exactly 65 kilometers of metro in 5 years. In other words, we built more than half of the metro built in the 25 years before us in just 5 years. This is a very valuable achievement."

REACTION TO MURAT KURUM

Making a reference to the AKP's Istanbul candidate Murat Kurum, İmamoğlu said, "You know this friend who counts steps, he went down in history. I want to say something, but I can't. There is a more serious side to this. There is labor theft involved in this business. There is no such thing as disrespectful politics."

İmamoğlu continued as follows:

"I am amazed at this mindset that thinks it can show the 65 kilometers we built in 5 years as 8 kilometers by taking 8 steps in front of the cameras. They have zero respect for the people and companies that put in the effort. May God give them wisdom. They think they are a gift from God. They think they can deceive the citizens."

"MARCH 31 IS THE DAY TO TEACH A LESSON"

Giving a message for the March 31 election, İmamoğlu said, "They have no intention of coming to their senses. They are still slandering. March 31 is the day for us all to teach a lesson to those who consider deceiving citizens a skill."

REFERENCE TO ERDOĞAN'S "FINAL FOR ME" REMARKS

Also referencing Erdoğan's message regarding the March 31 elections, "This is a final for me," İmamoğlu said, "This election is an election to say stop to polarization, to say stop to dividing people. This election is an election to put people first, to start loving people just because they are human."
