Imamoglu's first statement on the postponed party congress case: An operation to transition to a single-party system

The Republican People's Party (CHP) party congress case has been postponed by the court until October 24. Following this development, CHP's presidential candidate and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu issued a statement via social media.

In his statement, Imamoglu noted that the government's attempts against the CHP through the judiciary target multi-party politics and a democratic Turkey. Emphasizing that his party remains united during this process, Imamoglu stated that the extraordinary congress is the clearest response to those who wish to see the CHP fractured.

Furthermore, Imamoglu said that while this process is being portrayed as an "internal CHP conflict," it is in reality an operation to transition Turkey into a single-party system.

Stating that these attempts, carried out by abusing the judiciary, are unlawful, Imamoglu reminded that the elections of political parties should be overseen by the Supreme Election Council, not by courts.

Imamoglu emphasized that these anti-democratic initiatives threaten not only the CHP but the entire political and legal foundation of Turkey. Stating that the CHP is Turkey itself, Imamoglu concluded his statement by saying, "Sovereignty belongs unconditionally to the nation."
