İmamoğlu sends a message from Silivri: He reveals his roadmap
Imprisoned Ekrem İmamoğlu spoke to Cumhuriyet. Reiterating his support for Özgür Özel, İmamoğlu said of Erdoğan, "We are facing a pathetic mindset that does not hesitate to use the law as a tool to exclude its strongest rival from the election." İmamoğlu also explained his roadmap for the upcoming process.
Ekrem İmamoğlu, who announced his candidacy for the CHP's presidential nominee, was arrested on March 23 on the grounds of 'financial crimes' and sent to Silivri. This arrest, which has become the country's main agenda item, is also on the world's agenda. For this development, which made headlines in established newspapers, the headline "Erdoğan had his strongest rival arrested" was used.
Imprisoned in Silivri, İmamoğlu answered questions from Cumhuriyet's Mustafa Balbay. Expressing that his support for Özgür Özel at the extraordinary congress is full, İmamoğlu stated, "I have a partnership of fate and struggle with Özgür Özel that is rarely seen in our political history. In this context, my support for Özgür Özel at the extraordinary congress is full. We are carrying out a difficult struggle together."
"UNPRECEDENTED SOLIDARITY"
Noting that there is a solidarity between him and Özel that is unprecedented in the world, İmamoğlu commented, "As the presidential candidate and Özgür Özel as the CHP chairman, we will overcome these difficult days and succeed with a relationship of solidarity and comradeship unprecedented in the world. We will walk to victory together."
HE REVEALS HIS ROADMAP
İmamoğlu, whose diploma was taken away and whose candidacy opportunity is currently blocked, but who has filed a lawsuit for the cancellation of the decision, explained his roadmap for the presidency as follows:
"I have more in mind about what we will do after the extraordinary congress. We will make a historic start. We will establish presidential offices in Ankara and Istanbul. The center will be Ankara, but the work we have largely started in Istanbul will continue without slowing down."
"I HAVE A PATHETIC OPPONENT"
İmamoğlu, who has expressed in every way that his arrest has been political from the very beginning, made the comment 'I have a pathetic opponent' for Erdoğan:
"The heart would have wanted a fair race. But we are facing a pathetic mindset that has not even grazed fairness, that resorts to every means to keep its strongest rival out of the election, and that does not hesitate to use the law as a tool for this purpose. I have a pathetic opponent."
HE READS NUTUK THE MOST
Answering the question about his daily life in Silivri, İmamoğlu noted that he reads Nutuk the most:
There was the illustrated and documented Nutuk that we published as the IMM. I read that the most. I have reached the Sivas part, I am moving towards Ankara. I get more emotional on every page. We will talk about the feelings created by reading here later. But Mustafa Kemal's belief in victory, his tremendous perseverance, and his diligence cannot be described.
"I AM TAKING NOTES ON THE SECTIONS ABOUT JUSTICE FROM THE QURAN"
Noting that he also reads the Quran in prison, İmamoğlu conveyed that he reads by taking notes, especially on the parts related to justice, with these words:
I am also reading the Quran by taking notes, especially on the sections related to justice. I had all of Nâzım Hikmet's poems brought in, and that is also by my bedside. I am also reading a book about Hacı Bektaş Veli that has few pages but is tremendously profound.
