April 23 message from İmamoğlu! 'No power can shackle us'

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor and CHP presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu, who is currently detained in Silivri Prison, issued a statement on his social media account that contained both harsh criticism and a message of hope for the public.  

In his message, İmamoğlu criticized the current government, stating, "A handful of ambitious people who think they are the government believe they have stifled our nation's voice and cornered them. However, our nation possesses a great will, and no power can shackle its free thought," he said.

İmamoğlu included the following statements in his post:

A handful of ambitious people who think they are the government; they think they have cut off our nation's breath, stifled its voice, and cornered them.

A handful of ambitious people who burn through 50 billion dollars belonging to 86 million people, who crush the nation under the weight of high costs, who test them with hunger and poverty, who imprison them in unhappiness and hopelessness, and who turn our currency into nothing.

A handful of ambitious people who jeopardize our future, who divide and polarize the nation, and who have not learned a shred of wisdom or virtue from Anatolia.

A cruel and oppressive handful of ambitious people who try to pass off the production of false witnesses, slanderers, and secret witnesses for their own benefit as an independent judiciary by showing fear, threats, and dungeons.

MY DEAR NATION,

WE ARE ENTERING THE BLESSED WEEK OF NATIONAL SOVEREIGNTY. NO POWER CAN SHACKLE THE FREE THOUGHT OF OUR NATION.

THE FARMERS FROM YOZGAT, WHOSE HANDS I KISS WITH RESPECT AND WHOM I WILL VISIT AT THE FIRST OPPORTUNITY WHEN I AM FREE, WHO SAY "THE STATE IS NOT GOVERNED WITH RADISHES AND TURNIPS, IT IS GOVERNED WITH JUSTICE," ARE WITH US.

WE WILL WALK THIS PATH WITH INTEGRITY, COURAGE, AND JUSTICE.

THE WILL OF THE NATION IS THE GUARANTEE FOR US ALL.
