Including Özgür Özel: New immunity files in Parliament
Four immunity files prepared regarding CHP Chairman Özgür Özel and IYI Party Kocaeli Deputy Lütfü Türkkan have been submitted to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.
Files regarding the lifting of the legislative immunity of Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel and IYI Party Kocaeli Deputy Lütfü Türkkan have been submitted to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM).
Three of the files forwarded to the Speaker of the Parliament belong to Özgür Özel, and one belongs to Lütfü Türkkan. The motions sent to Parliament by the Presidency were referred by the Speaker of the Parliament to the Joint Committee, which consists of members of the Constitutional and Justice Commissions.
The Joint Committee will examine the files in the coming days. If a decision is made to lift the immunity of the relevant deputies, the process will be moved to the Parliament General Assembly.
With this development, the demand for the lifting of legislative immunity for prominent figures of the two opposition parties has once again become a subject of debate.
