Indictment against Özgür Çelik and 25 CHP members accepted! Trial date set

An indictment has been filed against CHP Istanbul Provincial Chair Özgür Çelik and 25 others regarding the events that took place in front of the Istanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan during the investigations into Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu. The indictment was accepted by the 18th Criminal Court of First Instance, and the trial date was set for September 22 at 10:00 AM.

Five police officers, who allegedly sustained injuries during the events, are listed as complainants in the indictment. Among those listed as suspects, in addition to Özgür Çelik, are his brother Özkan Çelik, Istanbul Provincial Vice Chair Ali Kocakaya, CHP Istanbul Provincial Youth Branch Chair Erdem Kara, his deputy Ozan Temürlenk, CHP Provincial Secretary Advisor Yılmaz Boyraz, CHP Sultangazi District Chair Kemal Avseren, Maltepe District Chair Kenan Otlu, Maltepe Municipal Council Member Yusuf Alperen Yurdudeven, Esenyurt Municipal Council Member Canali Tan, and Kartal Youth Branch Chair Kazım Caner Boz.

CHARGES AND SENTENCE REQUESTS

The indictment includes charges of "Resisting to Prevent the Performance of Duty," "Participating in Unlawful Meetings and Marches Unarmed and Failing to Disperse Despite Warnings," "Intentional Injury," and "Damaging Public Property." Prison sentences ranging from 3 years and 7 months to 15 years and 6 months, as well as a political ban, are being requested for these offenses.
