Indictment against Zafer Party leader Ümit Özdağ sent to Antalya

The court has issued its decision regarding the indictment prepared against Zafer Party Chairman Ümit Özdağ, who was brought to Istanbul after being detained in Ankara due to remarks he made at his party's Provincial Chairmen Consultation Meeting in Antalya, and who was subsequently arrested by the judgeship on charges of "inciting the public to hatred and hostility and insulting them," with prosecutors seeking up to 4 years and 8 months in prison and a political ban for the alleged crime of "insulting the President."

SENT TO ANTALYA

The indictment, which was sent to the Istanbul 35th Criminal Court of First Instance, was reviewed and subsequently transferred to the Antalya Criminal Court of First Instance after a decision of 'lack of jurisdiction' was issued, on the grounds that the speech in question took place in Antalya.

INVESTIGATION REGARDING HIS ARREST CONTINUES

Ümit Özdağ had been arrested and sent to Marmara Prison on charges of "inciting the public to hatred and hostility and insulting them" due to various accusations, including his social media posts. The investigation under which Özdağ was arrested is still ongoing.
