Investigation launched into incidents in front of CHP Headquarters

The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into the events that took place during the march from CHP Headquarters to the TBMM, led by Özgür Özel, on charges of "violating the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations" and "resisting a public officer." The Chief Public Prosecutor's Office also initiated an investigation for "intentional injury" against the individual who drove a car into citizens on the road near the party building, causing a woman to be injured.

Following the tension that occurred in the morning, the CHP Headquarters was cleared by riot police units dispatched to the area, who broke the chains and doors at the parking lot entrance and used tear gas and gas canisters. Tear gas canisters were also fired at party members. The interior of the party headquarters was filled with smoke due to the gas. Police are escorting members of the press out. The building's electricity has also been cut.

After the building was cleared by police intervention, CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, who left the headquarters, stated, "I am very sad; we are setting out to reclaim the father's hearth; when we return here again, this government and its collaborators will not dare to do this."

Shortly after Özel, the deputies, party members, and citizens who came to support left the headquarters, Celal Çelik, the lawyer for Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu—who was appointed as the interim CHP Chairman by an appellate court decision—and a group accompanying him entered the CHP Headquarters building.

The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into the events in front of the CHP. The statement from the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office read as follows:

"Regarding the events that began and continued at the CHP Headquarters on 24.05.26, our Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has initiated an investigation as follows:

An investigation has been launched for 'Violation of the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations No. 2911' against those who caused disturbances while participating in unauthorized meetings and demonstrations; for 'Resisting a Public Officer' under Article 265 of the Turkish Penal Code (TCK) against those who engaged in violent acts against law enforcement officers; and for 'Intentional Injury' under Article 86 of the TCK regarding the act of driving a car into citizens on the road near the party building, which caused one person to be injured and footage of which was reflected on social media."
