Investigation had been launched over Sheikh Said remarks: New development regarding DEM Co-Chair Tuncer Bakırhan

The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office had launched an investigation into DEM Party Co-Chair Tuncer Bakırhan regarding the remarks he made during his speech in Mardin. 

The Ministry of Interior had announced that legal action was initiated against DEM Party Co-Chair Tuncer Bakırhan and DEM Party Mardin Provincial Chair Mehmet Mihdi Tunç due to their statements regarding the appointments made to municipalities. 

Since Bakırhan is a Member of Parliament for Siirt, the investigation into him was initiated by the Parliamentary Crimes Investigation Bureau of the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.

According to information obtained, the Parliamentary Crimes Investigation Bureau launched an ex officio investigation due to Bakırhan's statements, which included the phrase, "Whatever Seyit Rıza did, whatever Sheikh Said did, the Kurdish people will do the same."

The investigation is being conducted on charges of "praising a crime and a criminal" and "inciting the public to hatred and hostility."

WHAT DID TUNCER BAKIRHAN SAY?

In his speech in Mardin, Tuncer Bakırhan had said, "Let them know very well that whatever Seyit Rıza did, whatever Sheikh Said did, whatever Mazlum, Deniz, and Sakine did, the Kurdish people will do the same."

STATEMENT FROM DEM PARTY

The DEM Party had also issued a statement regarding Bakırhan being targeted following these remarks. The statement noted that Bakırhan's words referring to Sheikh Said and Seyid Rıza in his speech regarding the trustee issue were distorted, and included the following expressions: "The speech points to a historical memory and criticizes the methods that produce a lack of resolution regarding the Kurdish issue. While a trustee coup is being carried out against our municipalities on one hand, we are being subjected to an organized political lynching on the other."
