Iran polemic in the ruling camp: Tensions rise after those remarks

Recent assessments made by AK Party Spokesperson Ömer Çelik at his party's headquarters have sparked a new political debate over Iran and developments in the region. In his statement, Çelik characterized the attacks by the United States (U.S.) and Israel against neighboring Iran as "contrary to international law and unlawful," while also criticizing the Iranian administration's response.

Çelik stated, "The attack carried out by the U.S. and Israel against our neighbor Iran is unlawful and has no legitimacy. This attack, which is contrary to international law and unjust, also targets the strategy of diplomacy to produce solutions. Diplomacy cannot be a tactical cover or a stalling tactic for an attack that has already been decided upon."

These remarks by Çelik drew a reaction from HÜDA PAR General Administrative Board Member Şeyhmus Tanrıkulu. In a statement on the social media platform X, Tanrıkulu directly quoted a portion of the statement and shared the following messages:

  • Those you call brother countries paid 5 trillion dollars in tribute to Trump and are allowing the U.S.-Zionists to use their lands to attack Iran.

  • Why does the implementation of rules of engagement surprise you? Won't you say a word or two to those who allow their lands to be used?

  • The Zionist crusaders commit all kinds of lawlessness, kill children and civilians, attack wherever they want, and do not answer to anyone.

  • It would be more appropriate to address your words to Iran diplomatically and fraternally, rather than on social media. The target should be the anti-Islamic Zionist crusaders!"
