Is there a rift in the People's Alliance during the new 'peace process'? Criticism from DEM to AKP
DEM Party Co-Chair Tülay Hatimoğulları made statements at the parliamentary group meeting. Criticizing the government on the issue of the resolution process, Hatimoğulları stated, "The government is looking for an excuse to turn back from dialogue."
Tülay Hatimoğulları, Co-Chair of the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party), made assessments regarding the agenda at her party's weekly group meeting.
Highlights from Hatimoğulları's speech are as follows:
TOUCHED UPON THE GREAT EARTHQUAKE
Our pain is truly immense. Our pain is so great that it cannot be described in words. But one of the things that adds to the pain is that over 600 thousand of our citizens have still been forced to fit their lives into those 21-square-meter containers for 2 years. I am addressing the government that says, 'We have healed the wounds of the earthquake'; go and see the inside of those containers. Those containers have worn out and fallen apart in two years. And just imagine, people are forced to live in such containers. Those families have had to fit their lives into those spaces. Only 201 thousand houses have been built and delivered. This government has also practiced regional discrimination in most of these. In many places, this government has not even started housing construction. One of these is Adıyaman and some parts of Malatya; in Antakya, İskenderun, Defne, Samandağ, and beyond, proper mass housing has not been built, they are fighting with the citizens, they are declaring reserve areas. One day they declare a reserve area in this neighborhood, they see the public's reaction, they encounter the public's resistance, they move that reserve area to another neighborhood. And for 2 years, they have been stalling the people of Hatay, our citizens in Hatay, like this.
As the DEM Party, we reject the approach of 'let's pay the traffic fines of former deputies from the treasury.' This government is an enemy of labor, an enemy of the working class.
We know very well what they are aiming for with the reserve area concept. We are facing a government with a contractor mentality that aims to see earthquake survivors as customers. The other mentality is their plans and projects aimed at changing the demographic structure in the region.
A future cannot be built in Syria by ignoring Kurds, Alawites, Druze, Syriacs, and other peoples. Orders established by force are bound to crack sooner or later.
OPERATION AGAINST MUNICIPALITIES
It is a political coup. The city consensus is the formula for living together. How can consensus be a crime? On one hand, you say 'peace,' and on the other, you record the city consensus as a justification for detention. We will never accept this."
PRISON SENTENCE FOR ABDULLAH ZEYDAN
This decision is a failure to recognize the will of the people of Van. The government is clearly sowing seeds of discord. The government is looking for an excuse to turn back from dialogue. Our struggle to build peace despite you will continue.
ÖCALAN'S MESSAGE
This call is being made to close a period shaped by conflicts in Turkey and to open the door to peace and democracy. It will not just be the Kurds who win; everyone will win as 85 million. Do you have any preparation to move the 100-year-old Kurdish issue from a system of violence and conflict to a legal basis? We urgently call on the government to fulfill its duty. There is no unilateral peace. It is essential for the government to announce its plan. Are you afraid of peace? We are aware that our job will not be easy after a possible call. As the DEM Party, we are ready to walk this path. We are candidates for this path to produce a solution."
'IT MIGHT NOT BE READY BY FEBRUARY 15'
Responding to questions after the group meeting, Hatimoğulları pointed to the Imralı delegation's visit to the KRG and stated that Öcalan's call might not be ready by February 15. Hatimoğulları said, "A historic call could take place within this month."
