Claim from İsmail Saymaz regarding DEM Party and CHP: 'In 5 metropolitan cities...'
Sözcü columnist İsmail Saymaz has suggested that the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) could support the CHP in 5 metropolitan cities in the March 31, 2024, local elections.
Istanbul is among the cities where the March 31, 2024, local elections are most highly anticipated.
The AKP has nominated former Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum to run against Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu. The race in this critical election is expected to be between these two figures.
While the IYI Party, which rejected the CHP's cooperation proposal and decided to enter the local elections 'freely and independently,' has not yet announced its candidate for Istanbul, the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) visiting CHP Chairman Özgür Özel last week brought up allegations of possible cooperation between the two parties.
İSMAİL SAYMAZ: DEM PARTY MAY SUPPORT CHP IN 5 METROPOLITAN CITIES
Sözcü columnist İsmail Saymaz claimed in his column today that the DEM Party could support the CHP in 5 metropolitan cities.
“Last week, the DEM Party visited the CHP Headquarters. Following this visit, the DEM Party has put on its agenda the possibility of not fielding mayoral candidates in Istanbul, Izmir, Adana, Mersin, and Bursa. The DEM Party may support their candidates in these five metropolitan cities,” Saymaz said, adding the following:
“The reasons cited are ‘the social dynamics in these five metropolitan cities; the influence of civil society, women's and ecology organizations, the power of the Kurds, and the multi-identity presence of the DEM Party electorate.’”
"DEM PARTY IS ALSO IN TALKS WITH DEVA AND SAADET PARTY"
“However, the DEM Party wants no candidates to be fielded in certain districts in these metropolitan cities, with the exception of Bursa. For example, Esenyurt, Sultanbeyli, and Adalar in Istanbul. The DEM Party is conducting a traffic of negotiations not only with the CHP but also with the DEVA and Saadet parties.”
