İsmail Saymaz reacts to Akşener targeting CHP: 'What is meant by being "DEM-ed"?'
Journalist İsmail Saymaz has reacted to IYI Party leader Meral Akşener's remarks targeting the CHP, in which she said, "Those who are heirs to Atatürk are being 'DEM-ed' today." Speaking on Sözcü TV, Saymaz said, "What is meant by being 'DEM-ed'? Is it meeting with DEM Party members? Yes, they are meeting, my friend. Do they want to get the votes of DEM Party members? Yes, they want to get them, my friend. DEM Party members do not live only in the east of the country. They live in the west and everywhere in the country. This homeland is theirs, my friend, okay? And they have to ask them what kind of city they want to live in. Every mass party has to do this."
İYI Party Chair Meral Akşener, who decided to enter the local elections 'freely and independently,' targeted the CHP at her party's candidate introduction event in İzmir.
The 'being DEM-ed' reference, previously used by AKP Chair and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli against the CHP, was used this time by Akşener.
In her speech in İzmir, Akşener stated, "Because we could not explain some things correctly, those who are heirs to Atatürk are being 'DEM-ed' today. Those who are heirs to Atatürk cannot be very broad-minded on some issues. On one side, there is this. On the other side, there are those who slander every moment and every state of Atatürk, starting from his mother, and there are administrators who watch this. I cannot watch it, my friend. Because I could not watch it, everything happened to me. And I am willing to accept that it happened."
Journalist İsmail Saymaz reacted to these words from Akşener.
Speaking on a live broadcast on Sözcü TV, İsmail Saymaz used the following expressions:
The IYI Party members need to say, 'Wait, what is happening?' They need to say, 'My friend, you must have gotten it mixed up, this is a separate party.' There is fluidity between the CHP and the IYI Party in terms of voters. But Meral Akşener is the one who does not want to see this and insists on denying it. Because they do not see this, the IYI Party is experiencing a crisis.
"HAVE YOU LOST YOUR MINDS?"
Soner Çetin has switched to the IYI Party and is fighting the internal struggle within the CHP as an IYI Party candidate. He says he will hold those who stabbed Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu in the back accountable. I say that Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu said this first for Meral Akşener at the party congress. Have you lost your minds? Why are you IYI Party members making your own party the ground for the CHP's internal conflict?
"IF SHE THINKS SHE WILL GROW FROM THIS, I THINK SHE IS MISTAKEN"
Why did the IYI Party do all of this? Didn't they do it to part ways with the CHP? Why both part ways with the CHP and nominate names that the CHP did not nominate? If Ms. Meral thinks she will grow from this, I think she is mistaken. Because there are high-level IYI Party officials who are uncomfortable with these types of policies. Because there are some among them who had advocated for this view so that our path would separate from the CHP. However, they were not expecting it to become this ugly. The matter has now turned into a neighborhood brawl.
"THEY HAVE TO ASK DEM PARTY MEMBERS"
Also, what is meant by 'being DEM-ed'? Is it meeting with DEM Party members? Yes, they are meeting, my friend. Do they want to get the votes of DEM Party members? Yes, they want to get them, my friend. DEM Party members do not live only in the east of the country. They live in the west and everywhere in the country. This homeland is theirs, my friend, okay? And they have to ask them what kind of city they want to live in. Every mass party has to do this.
The AK Party does it too, and the CHP will do it too, my friend. The DEM Party has 25% of the votes in Esenyurt. Even if it were a 2.5% group and not 25%, you would have to go and ask them. Is there a 25% DEM Party presence? You have to say, 'My friend, what kind of city do you want, how do you want to be governed?' Doesn't this person pay for water, my friend? Of course, you will choose a candidate that they will also value.
A Kurdish candidate was nominated in Esenyurt. So, is this being 'DEM-ed'? No, this is doing politics according to the reality of Turkey. If Meral Akşener does not do this, what happens is she cannot enter one-third of the country. A political movement that cannot get votes from Kurds cannot even be the main opposition.
