İYİ Party Chair Meral Akşener: 'It's just an election, we aren't going to war'

İYİ Party Chair Meral Akşener visited shopkeepers in Niğde alongside her party's mayoral candidate, Naim Osman Erem.

Arriving in Niğde as part of her election campaign, Akşener began her shop visits at Şadırvan Park.

Touring shops with mayoral candidate Naim Osman Erem and chatting with shopkeepers, Akşener also posed for photos with citizens.

Wishing the shopkeepers prosperous business, Akşener asked for votes for her party's candidate, Erem.

Akşener stated the following:

"It's just an election, we aren't going to war. I mean, this election is a festival for the voters. Therefore, while there should be competition based on projects, vision, and service, we have been tearing each other apart over 'us versus them' mentalities. For example, I always say this to set an example for the youth: I started my political career in the DYP, and back then there was a rivalry between ANAP and the DYP. It wasn't like a battle. No one was stabbing anyone. Back then, you would go to a shop, stand before a gentleman as a DYP member, and he would start explaining, saying, 'You said these things and didn't do them. I'm going to vote for ANAP again.' Wouldn't we stand at attention? I mean, the voter was the benefactor. We have forgotten this. If we can revive it, Turkey will truly meet democracy. Truly, you—the voters, the nation—will then remember again that you are the boss. This has been forgotten."
