İYİ Party Kastamonu Provincial Chair Faruk Ataşalar and Central District Chair Özgür Ergülenoğlu resign

İYİ Party Kastamonu Provincial Chair Faruk Ataşalar and Central District Chair Özgür Ergülenoğlu have resigned from their posts.

In a written statement regarding the matter, it was stated that the decision to resign was taken because members of the executive and disciplinary boards, who did not support the party's candidate and did not work for the party during the March 31 Local Administration Elections, participated in the victory convoy of the winning party's candidate.

The statement included the following remarks:

"In the March 31, 2024 Local Administration Elections, we have unfortunately faced many of the same events and reasons that we encountered as a party across Turkey in our area of responsibility, Kastamonu.

Throughout our 2-month election campaign, we unfortunately fought a more difficult and exhausting battle than the one against our rivals, against our own party members, former chairs, and administrators who desired our failure.

In addition to many of our members who did not support their own party's candidate, did not work for their party, and did not vote for their own party and candidate, the fact that many of our own executive and disciplinary board members voted for other candidates, and even participated in the winning candidate's election march and celebration convoy, and as if that were not enough, practically announced this with the posts and comments they made on social media, has deeply saddened us.

As a result of these attitudes and behaviors we have described, and with the awareness of the responsibility that falls upon us, we accept that we have been unsuccessful as an organization and, as a result of the political discipline we have received, we are resigning from our duties."

WHAT HAPPENED?

In the March 31 Local Elections in Kastamonu, CHP candidate Hasan Baltacı received 49.17 percent of the votes, while AKP's Tahsin Babaş received 36.15 percent.

The İYİ Party's vote share in the city was 0.81 percent.
