Karalar and Genç competed for the TBB Deputy Presidency! The new TBB Deputy President has been determined

Following the arrest of Ekrem İmamoğlu, Adana Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Zeydan Karalar and Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ahmet Metin Genç became candidates for the Deputy Presidency of the Union of Municipalities of Türkiye (TBB). As a majority could not be reached in the first two rounds, the vote proceeded to a third round. Zeydan Karalar, who received 463 votes in the third round, was elected as the TBB Deputy President.

Karalar and Genç competed for the TBB Deputy Presidency! The new TBB Deputy President has been determined

Adana Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Karalar and Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Genç competed for the Deputy Presidency of the Union of Municipalities of Türkiye (TBB).

The TBB Assembly met at a hotel to elect a Deputy President of the Union, in accordance with the call from the Ankara Governorship, following the arrest of Union President and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu and his subsequent removal from office by the Ministry of Interior.

The meeting began with a moment of silence and the singing of the National Anthem, after which the Council Board was formed. Adana Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Karalar presided over the Council.

In his speech, Karalar congratulated everyone on the occasion of Ramadan Bayram and expressed his hope that the legal process concerning İmamoğlu would be conducted in a fair and transparent manner.

Stating that a vacancy had occurred in the Union Presidency office due to İmamoğlu's arrest, Karalar announced that they had gathered to elect a name to serve as acting president.

Zeydan Karalar announced that he and Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Genç had been nominated as candidates for the Deputy Presidency of the Union.

Following this, Karalar wished his rival in the deputy presidency race, Genç, success and handed over the Council Presidency to Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ahmet Akın.

AKIN CONVEYED İMAMOĞLU'S GREETINGS

In his speech at the meeting, Akın stated that he had visited İmamoğlu at Silivri Prison, where he is being held, earlier in the morning and conveyed his greetings to those in the hall.

Expressing that the election held today was for an acting position, Akın said, "Until our President Ekrem finds justice and returns to his duties, he will be represented worthily in the Union of Municipalities of Türkiye, just as he is in the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality."

Following the speeches, the voting for the TBB Deputy Presidency began.
