Karayalçın calls for an extraordinary congress for CHP: 'A serious conspiracy has been set up against our party'

Former Deputy Prime Minister Murat Karayalçın emphasized that following the legal processes faced by the CHP, the crisis the party has been dragged into can only be overcome through a congress. Reiterating his call for unity to find a solution, Karayalçın pointed out that postponing the congress could pose a risk to participation in elections.

Karayalçın calls for an extraordinary congress for CHP: 'A serious conspiracy has been set up against our party'

Making statements regarding the current agenda before a conference in Malatya, experienced politician Murat Karayalçın evaluated the legal processes the Republican People's Party (CHP) has recently experienced. Stating that the "absolute nullity" decision taken by the Regional Court of Justice on May 21, in particular, pushed the party into a major conspiracy, Karayalçın expressed that the tremors caused by this development are still ongoing.

Karayalçın stated, "A very big trap has been set for the Republican People's Party. This latest incident, namely the Regional Court of Justice's decision of absolute nullity on May 21, is the final step of this trap. We are experiencing other tremors and negative consequences brought about by this final step. The rights of our Chairman Özgür Özel and the administrators of the Republican People's Party have been usurped. Republican People's Party members have been pushed into a trap, into a pit. The efforts and initiatives of our friends to seek our rights are unfortunately yielding no results. The judicial bodies, the high judicial bodies that should decide on this, are unfortunately not making a decision; they are staying away and throwing the task onto someone else."

Complaining about the lack of sufficient support from the highest levels of the state and judicial bodies, Karayalçın argued that the solution to this issue should be sought within the party. "The President says, 'This is not our business, this is the business of the CHP members.' The Speaker of the Parliament says the same, 'It is the CHP members' own problem.' So we are in such an environment that neither the judicial bodies nor the state administrators are showing interest or making an effort regarding our situation, regarding our usurped rights. The task has fallen to us. Now, as Republican People's Party members, I say this without making any distinctions; we must solve this, we will solve this. The way to solve this is through a congress. There is no other way. In all political parties, wherever there is democracy, the decision is made by the members. The decision made by the members or the decision made by the delegates is valid, not judicial decisions," he said.

RESPONSE TO KILIÇDAROĞLU'S "PURIFICATION" STATEMENT

Also making statements about the "purification" debates that have come to the agenda in the party in recent days, Karayalçın said, "Now the appointed administration has some evaluations, I understand that too. Mr. Kılıçdaroğlu is talking about a purification. Of course, if there is something that needs to be purified, it should be purified, and that should be brought to light. Mr. Kılıçdaroğlu says, 'first purification, first accountability must be demanded, there must be purification, then the congress should be held.'

Now, if there is something to be purified, it should be brought to light. I am not of the opinion that the Republican People's Party is in a state of corruption, but if there are such people within the party, Mr. Kılıçdaroğlu should provide his information and documents on this matter to the judiciary. That process should proceed on one hand, and the congress should be held on the other; both should happen together. In other words, one cannot say 'I will demand accountability first, I will purify first, then we will hold the congress'," he said.

NO LEGAL OBSTACLE TO THE CONGRESS

Stating that there is no legal obstacle to convening the congress, Karayalçın drew attention to the statement made by Party Spokesperson Zeynel Emre on this issue. Emphasizing that the reservations regarding holding the congress are not correct, Karayalçın said, "The evaluations regarding the fact that the congress cannot be held are not correct evaluations. That is, it is said, 'an injunction was issued, therefore we cannot make a congress decision.' Our Party Spokesperson Mr. Zeynel Emre explained this. Mr. Zeynel Emre says; despite the injunction, the Istanbul Provincial Congress was held. The Supreme Election Council did this. In the same way, we can do this now, we can do it despite the injunction. There is no obstacle here. But if you are of the opinion that this is an obstacle, then withdraw the application, let us finalize this. Therefore, there would be no injunction either. Let us go to the congress immediately," he said.

WARNING ON ELECTION PARTICIPATION

Pointing out that if the congress process is delayed further, the risk of the CHP not being able to participate in elections could arise, Karayalçın called for solidarity from all party members. "There is a view added by Mr. Zeynel Emre, and I attach importance to that as well. If the congress cannot be held by July 25, I believe, there is a possibility that the Republican People's Party will not be able to enter the elections. For this reason, we must hold the congress immediately. Ultimately, there is nothing we need to hide from each other. We are CHP members, we are brothers and sisters.

I am not making a distinction between those who are at the headquarters and those who are not. We must come together, we must solve this. Such a trap has been set for us. We can get out of this trap by being in solidarity, by holding onto each other. I am telling this to everyone. I request everyone to think about this. As a former chairman, as a party member, as a Republican People's Party member, this is my evaluation," he said.
