Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu's striking article on 'decay': Those who govern the country are responsible for this

CHP's 7th Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, who lost the chairmanship election at the 38th Ordinary Congress of the CHP to the 'changeist' candidate Özgür Özel, wrote an article titled 'Decay' for the Karar newspaper.

Stating that "There are two main axes of social decay: law and economy," Kılıçdaroğlu said, "If usurers, drug barons, arms smugglers, and money launderers are running rampant in a country while global companies with the potential to bring foreign currency into the country, such as Volkswagen, Honda, LG Energy, and BP, are leaving the Turkish market or deciding against investing, it means there is a problem. (Dirty money drives out clean money). If money launderers and drug barons are escaping punishment by distributing bribes to members of the judiciary and politicians, it means there is a problem. If a prosecutor mentions gangs forming within the judiciary in a letter written to the Council of Judges and Prosecutors, it means there is a problem. If the judiciary and bureaucracy do not comply with the decisions of the Constitutional Court, it means there is a problem."

Stating that the second axis of decay is the economy, Kılıçdaroğlu wrote, "If the economic power of the 'underworld'—that is, the mafia and drug barons—(income obtained as a result of activities such as drugs, money laundering, gambling, prostitution, and seizing property) is constantly growing and this 'unregistered' power is reaching the point of controlling the worlds of politics and the judiciary, it means there is a problem. And if Turkey is placed on the 'grey list' (October 21, 2021) by the OECD-affiliated Financial Action Task Force (FATF) for failing to do the necessary work in the areas of 'money laundering, drugs, and terrorist financing,' it means there is a problem."

Kılıçdaroğlu stated, "The first rule of escaping this vortex is to transition to true democracy and cleanse politics of corruption. The rest will follow on its own."
