Kılıçdaroğlu reportedly called the police after those remarks

With the "absolute nullity" ruling uploaded to the UYAP system on May 21 by the 36th Civil Chamber of the Ankara Regional Court of Justice, the CHP's 38th Ordinary Congress, held on November 4-5, 2023, was declared invalid.

With this decision, the powers of CHP Chairman Özgür Özel and the party administration were terminated, and Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu was reinstated to the position of CHP Chairman.

Following the public disclosure of the ruling, tense hours were experienced at the CHP Headquarters, while the Özgür Özel administration announced that they would not recognize the decision.

ÖZEL SOUGHT SUPPORT IN A CLOSED GROUP MEETING

It was stated that two phone calls took place between Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu and Özgür Özel during this process, but no consensus was reached.

It was reported that Özgür Özel, who held a closed group meeting with CHP deputies on the morning of May 23, was elected as the CHP TBMM Group President with the support of 110 deputies and the votes of 95 CHP deputies.

“SURRENDER” COMMENT FROM THE KILIÇDAROĞLU CAMP

It was stated that the group presidency election, held following claims in pro-government media that "90 deputies support Kılıçdaroğlu," was evaluated by the Özel administration as a move to demonstrate their parliamentary majority.

The report claims that Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu and his team interpreted Özgür Özel's election as TBMM Group Chair as a "renunciation of his bid for the party chairmanship."

CONGRATULATORY MESSAGE FROM KILIÇDAROĞLU

It was stated that following the development in question, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu appeared before the cameras for the first time since the "absolute nullity" decision.

It was reported that in his statement, Kılıçdaroğlu reiterated his call for a "purification" of the CHP and also congratulated Özgür Özel on his election as TBMM Group Chair.

TENSIONS ROSE AFTER ÖZEL'S "RESISTANCE" STATEMENT

It was noted that shortly after Kılıçdaroğlu's statement, Özgür Özel held a press conference at the CHP Headquarters and delivered a message of "continuing the resistance."

It is alleged that new steps were taken by the Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu camp after Özel announced that he was maintaining his bid for the party chairmanship.

ALLEGATION OF AN EVICTION PETITION TO THE GOVERNORSHIP

According to the claim in the report, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu had his lawyer, Celal Çelik, prepare a petition to be submitted to the Ankara Governorship for the evacuation of the CHP Headquarters.

It was stated that some CHP deputies and lawyers supporting Kılıçdaroğlu arrived in front of the CHP Headquarters in the morning, and that the police presence in the area increased throughout the night.

It was further alleged that a scuffle broke out between Kılıçdaroğlu supporters and groups close to Özel, and that a second petition was subsequently sent to the Ankara Governorship by Celal Çelik.

The report claimed that in the ensuing process, riot police units intervened at the CHP Headquarters, the garage door was broken, and the building was evacuated.

"IT WASN'T A CONGRATULATION, IT WAS IRONY" CLAIM

On the other hand, the report alleged that Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu later applied to the Speaker of the Parliament with a 3-page petition to have Özgür Özel's election as TBMM Group Chair declared invalid.

It is claimed that when asked by those who spoke with him, "If the election was not recognized, why was he congratulated?", Kılıçdaroğlu replied, "I was being ironic when I congratulated Özel there; I think it was misunderstood."
