Kılıçdaroğlu's striking defense: 'Erdoğan will make concessions on Cyprus'

Former CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu is presenting his defense in a trial opened upon the complaint of President and AKP Chairman Erdoğan, in which he faces up to 11 years and 8 months in prison. Starting his defense with a determined tone, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu said, “Your Honor, I did not come here to defend myself, but to put the crimes committed on the record and to leave a note for history.”

Kılıçdaroğlu used the following expressions:

“Fortunately for me, I did not appear before the court for bribery, embezzlement, or treason. I appeared before you because I called a ‘thief’ a thief. I say it once again; the man who asked, ‘Son, did you zero out the money in the house?’ is a thief. If the man who said, ‘If I become rich, know that I have stolen,’ has become rich, he is a chief thief, he is a thief.”

''OUR ONLY ENEMY IS IMPERIALISM''

In the continuation of his defense, Kılıçdaroğlu touched upon his youth, stating that he witnessed the execution of Deniz Gezmiş and his friends. He spoke as follows:

“After the years when we killed each other as rightists and leftists, I understood that we have only one enemy. It is the imperial powers that want to tear this country apart and their collaborators. We are not Turks, Kurds, Alevis, or Sunnis. We are a nation that wants to live in peace and brotherhood on these lands.”

'I DID NOT TAKE A STEP BACK, BUT I WAS MISTAKEN'

Expressing regret for some of the choices he made during the presidential election process, Kılıçdaroğlu said:

“Some people whom we knew as nationalists and patriots turned out to be collaborators. I made a mistake by trusting them. I should have been more effective in fighting against fake videos and lies. I could not convince my people on this matter.”

'ERDOĞAN WILL GIVE AWAY LAND FROM CYPRUS'

Kılıçdaroğlu, in his defense, voiced one of his most striking claims, alleging that Erdoğan will make concessions on Cyprus and the Aegean:

“I am saying it short and clear, Erdoğan will give away land from Cyprus and the Aegean. Remember, he had previously said, ‘If necessary, a portion of land from Cyprus can also be given.’ This is part of the second phase of the Greater Middle East Project (BOP).”

Kılıçdaroğlu claimed that the first phase of the BOP was “the surrender of leaders through bribery and corruption,” and that Erdoğan is also under pressure due to his assets.

'THE PASTOR BRUNSON INCIDENT IS PROOF OF SURRENDER'

Referring to statements Erdoğan made in the past, Kılıçdaroğlu touched upon the Pastor Brunson crisis:

“Erdoğan, who said, ‘As long as this soul is in this body, I will not hand over that priest,’ released Pastor Brunson after Trump’s threats. At that time, the whole world saw that Erdoğan had surrendered.”

'ECONOMIC COLLAPSE AND REFUGEE CRISIS ARE PART OF THE BOP'

Stating that Turkey has been economically weakened and turned into a refugee depot, Kılıçdaroğlu expressed that this situation is a plan of international powers.

“We are paying 135 liras in interest for every 100 liras of debt. Turkey has been caused 128 billion dollars in damage. Instead of solving the refugee crisis, they are bowing to the orders of imperial powers.”

'THE ONE-MAN REGIME DRAGS THE COUNTRY INTO DISASTER'

Arguing that the one-man regime will leave Turkey facing greater dangers, Kılıçdaroğlu said:

“Today, there are no oversight mechanisms, and meritocracy has ended. When American soldiers were invading Iraq, the Turkish Grand National Assembly was able to say no to this. However, if it were a one-man regime, Erdoğan would never have been able to oppose this motion.”
